Examples of Advocating for Your Needs

A lot of us think advocating for ourselves means convincing other people to understand why we need something.

It doesn't. It means making a clear request. Instead of:"Is this okay... if it's not too much... sorry to ask..."

Try:

"Here's what I need."

"Could you help me with this?"

"I need some quiet time this afternoon."

"I'm not available then."

The goal isn't to control someone's response.

They can say yes.

They can say no.

They can offer something different.

Your job is to communicate what you need.

Not to manage everyone's reaction.

Not to write everyone else's lines.

You get to be the main character in your own life.
