Emotions Along for the Ride

Imagine you're driving a car.

Fear gets in. Stress climbs into the backseat. Frustration comes along for the ride. Excitement is sitting behind you.

They're all allowed to be there.

The problem isn't that they're in the car.

The problem is when we hand them the keys.

One of the biggest mindset shifts I see is when clients stop asking, "How do I get rid of this feeling?" and start asking,"What am I truly needing right now?"

Sometimes the answer is: "I need rest."

Sometimes it's: "I need to eat."

Sometimes it's: "I need to be present for this conversation."

And sometimes..."This is uncomfortable, and I can still choose what matters most."

That's emotional regulation.

We aren't getting rid of emotions, but rather learning they don't have to make every decision for you. You still get to drive your own car.
