From 1,000 to 10,000 Daily Steps in a Year
About a year ago, one of my clients told me: "I have to get 10,000 steps."
I asked her why. She didn't really know. She just felt like she should. So we started by tracking what she was actually doing.
About 1,000 steps a day.
We didn't jump to 10,000. We went to 4,000. Then 6,000. Then 8,000.
And recently, she hit 10,000 steps for two weeks straight!
A year ago, 10,000 was something she thought she was supposed to do.
Now, it's something she KNOWS she can do (even working a desk job!)
She recently asked me:"What do you expect of me now?" I told her:"Now I know you can do 10,000. I expect you to be able to do 10,000 even on your busiest days."
That's not about perfection.
We didn't force her to become a 10,000-step person overnight.
We built the capacity to become one.
*Just like any incredible feat, we build capacity one step at a time - another client of mine told me she wanted to do a weightlifting meet. So we started with learning how to squat. All great things come one piece at a time :)
