Removing Resistance: The Power of Shoes

I had a client who really wanted to move more, so we set a goal: take a 10-minute walk three times per week.

Simple enough, right?

Except, she wasn't doing it.

Instead of making the goal bigger or telling her to try harder, we backed up and looked at what was actually happening.

She didn't have a good pair of walking shoes. She didn't have a route she liked. She wasn't sure how far she should go. And after a long day at work, she was tired.

Suddenly, that simple 10-minute walk had a lot more friction than we'd accounted for.

We started with doing one thing: getting her a solid pair of walking shoes.

Since then, she's been averaging 6,000-8,000 steps per day, and she's been raving about how much of a difference those shoes made.

The shoes weren't magic. They were one less thing standing between her and something she already wanted to do.

Where do you notice resistance popping up around the things you WANT to do, but just can't seem to follow through on?
